Cycling is not the reason to travel. The bicycle is the vehicle by which we are exposed to new places and cultures. Whether you are 200 or 2,000 miles from your home, there is plenty to discover and learn while riding a bike.
This is why I travel. This is why I ride.
My Work
I like to turn left when everyone else turns right. I look down alleys and side streets in search of something different. And, when I find it I like to share it.
Journalism and storytelling have been lifelong pursuits. After an extended newspaper career, I now enjoy producing freelance magazine and website content featuring cycle tourism and general travel. As a seasoned writer, I know how to research, capture, and deliver descriptive and useful information to a target audience.
My work has appeared in Northwest Travel & Life magazine, Cycle California! Magazine, AAA's Via Magazine, Bend Magazine, Fresh Cup, STiR coffee and tea, the Oregon Wine Press, Tea Journey, and various Oregon tourism websites.
My History
After graduating from Indiana University’s School of Journalism, I served as a reporter and editor for newspapers in Indiana, California, and Oregon. While working for the Times-Advocate in Escondido, CA, I teamed with colleagues to become Pulitzer Prize finalists (Explanatory Journalism) in 1990. I later served as editor of the Gazette-Times in Corvallis, OR, and as both managing editor and digital media director of the News-Register in McMinnville, OR.
I left the News-Register in 2015 to begin my cycling / coffee / travel adventure.
